The Bosque del Apache (“Woods of the Apache”) National Wildlife Refuge in southern Socorro County, New Mexico, comprises arid grasslands and artificially maintained wetlands. The latter attract the huge flocks of wintering cranes and geese that are the refuge's most interesting feature.
